Engagement through curriculum
Through Mountainside directions meetings and through interviews with parents and students we have come to the realization that our learning opportunities need to be personalized, relevant, integrated and as fun as possible. To this end there are two curricular initiatives that we have chosen to focus our energies upon in the coming year. These two areas are self-paced learning and cross-curricular opportunities.
Self-paced Learning
Teaching staff at Mountainside will continue to focus on developing individualized and self-paced educational programs for students that both engage students and reflect the new BC Curriculum. The creation of individualized and self-paced units allow students to progress academically while also accommodating absences that may result due to scheduled appointments or challenging life circumstance. Further development of engaging units and ensuring that they are tied to the Big Ideas of the New Curriculum will be a goal throughout the coming years.
Innovative cross-curricular opportunities
Mountainside Directions Meetings have been the source of numerous innovative initiatives that have shaped our course offerings here at Mountainside. Through the creativity and collaboration of staff we have developed the cross-curricular/project based course offerings listed below. Our goal in the coming year will be to nurture, evaluate, and adjust these courses as needed and if successful, we also hope to expand these types of cross-curricular and project based learning opportunities.
